Change to construction site operating procedures amid pandemic

Jan 21, 2021

The CLC (construction Leadership council) have amended current Construction Site Operating Procedures to ensure they align with the ongoing Government Guidance around the COVID-19 pandemic. Designed to protect contractors, employees and sites – the guidance sets out the appropriate standards and requirements that enable construction firms to continue working during these unprecedented and challenging times.

Construction industry staff have been continuing to keep important building projects moving throughout 2020 and into 2021, whilst measures have been implemented to keep everyone safe. You are likely to already be aware of many of the key guidance areas and rules recommended to building sites throughout the past year, which continue to evolve based on our developing knowledge of the coronavirus threat and the Government’s regularly updated advice for the population of the UK.

Build UK have provided a comprehensive self-isolation flowchart that guides contractors in the appropriate actions to take should someone on site display symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, but also provides resources with regard to support payments should they be required to follow this procedure.

The key changes included within version 7 include:

  • Amended guidance around isolation and shielding.
  • Public Health Guidance changes that require contractors to act if a certain number of cases are identified within a set timeframe (5 or more cases within a 14-day period).
  • The removal of QR codes in food areas such as canteens.

It is important as a site manager or construction professionals, that you have the most recent copy of the Site Operating Procedures and that you can implement these measures to help protect your staff and any site visitors. More help, support and advice for businesses is available on the Government website (www.gov.uk).
