Demand for skilled construction labour on the rise
Mar 23, 2021
The construction industry is reporting a significant rise in demand for construction professionals, another positive step forward for sector growth after a challenging year.
With rising demand for skilled labour on building sites across England, it’s fantastic news for housebuilders across the country. A recent study by one of the UK’s leading subcontractor payers’, Hudson Contract, has reported not only growing demand for labour, but increased earning potential for certain trades, and in various regions across England.
According to the indexing system used within the recruitment sector (where anything about 50 represents growth potential) the increase in roles across the construction and engineering industries reported a score of 57.7 where temporary roles of the same nature ranked at 58. As we saw back in November 2020, construction output had grown (and returned to pre-pandemic levels) driven predominantly by a 3.5% new project increase.
With industry forecasters estimating growth of 14% in the sector this year alone, it seems a strong recovery is inevitable. There’s no doubt this comes as refreshing news for sector workers looking for new opportunities and reinforces the integral role the UK construction industry continues to play.
With the Government’s “roadmap” suggesting that life for many of us will be back to a more familiar “normal” by the middle of this year and with the positive indicators of industry growth, it’s great news for construction companies, tradespeople, merchants and suppliers alike.
