Driver shortages impacting Builders Merchants.
Jul 22, 2021
The Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) has highlighted its’ members’ concerns over the availability of delivery drivers. Recruiting new drivers has posed challenges in recent weeks with demand outweighing supply. Permanent staff, as well as agency cover has been hard to come by and to help alleviate the issue businesses are reportedly resorting to retraining current staff to fulfil driver roles in the interim.
Summer holiday plans, and a reduced number of license test slots have contributed to the problem which has lead to product delays, and failed deliveries. Combined with the global supply chain challenges that have dominated the sector; it’s a troubling time for many.
Project delays in construction can be costly with even the smallest disruption able to hinder scheduled project plans significantly.
