What Does 15 Tonnes of Steel Look Like?

When a contractor was tasked with demolishing an existing barn and constructing a new dwelling on the same footprint, struktaSTEEL played a central role. With over 15 tonnes of structural steel supplied, the project featured a bold architectural design - including a glazed atrium linking two split-level buildings to create a spacious, light-filled vaulted entrance.

Our steelwork supported both the structural integrity and the aesthetic ambition of the build, demonstrating how struktaSTEEL delivers strength, precision, and flexibility for complex residential projects.

Stainless Steel Masonry Support Systems

Angle Brackets Masonry Support

Stainless steel masonry support systems are used to carry the load of the external leaf of brick, block or stone cladding back to the primary structure, creating a horizontal support point at floor levels, above openings or wherever facade loads need to be transferred safely into the structural frame of the building. In framed construction, they also help control the uninterrupted height of masonry panels and accommodate differential vertical movement between the structure and the cladding.

The most common arrangements are continuous angles, bracket angles and individual brackets. Best-practice guidance notes that continuous angles are the simplest form, bracket-angle systems are often more economical for wider cavities, and individual brackets are particularly useful for curved or irregular masonry facades. Design normally needs to consider cavity width, masonry load, frame type, tolerances and the position of movement joints within the brickwork.

Welded Masonry Support

The key point is that masonry support is rarely a one-size-fits-all product. Project-specific calculations, schedules and installation drawings are typically required so that the support steel, fixings and adjustability match the structural frame and the façade build-up. Industry guidance also highlights the importance of careful setting out, coordination with the structural frame and correct installation to maintain line, level and long-term performance.

At strukta, we have the ability to work closely with manufacturers such as Birtley and IG to bring your project facades to life with a structurally sound and certificated solution.
